Part Three....The Filling System
I get a lot of e-mails from people new to water cooling who have questions about filling their system. The most common question is how do I get the air out of the system?
"T" lines
Moderately useful for putting water into the system but more useful for trapping air bubbles. Some people swear by the "T" line. Others avoid their use.

Reservoirs
Much more versatile than the "T" Line but they take up a large amount of case space. Reservoirs fill a system and trap air without problems. The difficulty with reservoirs is they do not empty a system with any degree of control. Pictured is a Swiftech bay reservoir fitted with brass barbs.

3 Tap systems
Possibly the most versatile water filling and emptying system. Dependent upon the configuration of the 3 tap used it takes up less space than a reservoir and can be hidden from view by careful planning. Alternatively the 3 tap can be attached directly to the pump as pictured below.

In the Radiical Ultra Extreme and CM Stacker Project a bay reservoir and three tap system were considered. The bay reservoir design was modified to assist in emptying the system by the addition of a drainage tap.


While this system worked well it used up the remaining bay left in the CM Stacker and as such left no room for further development.
To avoid the loss of an additional drive bay a modified three tap was used and fixed to the inside wall of the lower bays.
The MCP600 pump was then connected up and the system was ready for a pressure test. When all of the units components are connected the water cooling system can be removed as a one piece unit. This greatly assists in leak testing and other bench tests.
Following on from the pressure test it was necessary to adjust the output to radiator one so that the introduction of a second pump would not mean a complete take down of the system. The next phase will be the completion of motherboard fitting and then the soft tubing for the water block can be installed.
